Giuseppe Loy
Questa è la tua lezione

The fact that Giuseppe Loy was not a professional photographer allowed him to treat the camera as a device for taking notes, without worrying about “wasting” shots or having to focus attention on the centre at the expense of the edges. This absolute freedom is always evident in his many images, and indeed, it was in this spirit that he photographed Fontana, Burri and Afro. His principal concern was the creative force emanated by people. In all of the faces that Loy photographed (including those of his friends, children, his beloved wife Rosetta, and strangers), he managed to convey their special force that is, basically, their creative potential.
Giuseppe Loy was born in Cagliari in 1928. In 1938 he settled in Rome with his family. He married Rosetta Provera in 1954 and shortly afterwards began to work as an executive in the construction company founded by her father. At the same time he became a keen amateur poet and photographer. Photography in particular developed into a genuine obsession and Loy’s camera was his inseparable companion for the next 30 years. Giuseppe Loy died in Rome in 1981, leaving over 50,000 photographs.
