“Ci sarà ancora il mare?” is written in a sober, elegant style with a quick, flowing rhythm. And the characters of the three stories are equally sober, forced to seek the key to their future in their past. Like Alberto, who finds himself caught up in an unexpected adventure in the land of his birth, which will lead him to reconsider all his certainties. Then there’s Maria, who sees her mother in an entirely new light when the traditional mother and daughter roles are reversed with a new pre-linguistic, almost oneiric, language. And Irma, who realises what she wants for the first time at eighty-two years old and manages to make up for her past life by changing the future of her children and grandchildren in the most surprising way. All the characters are so believable that the reader almost seems to know them, or rather would like to know them.
