Federico Del Prete
Ara Pacis

Federico Del Prete’s “Ara Pacis” is a photographic book that offers a visual account of the first architectural project to be built in the historic district of Rome for over 50 years. The aim of the volume and the images that it contains is to convey the daringness of the work: a contemporary building, designed by one of the greatest living architects, which houses one of the greatest monuments of classical antiquity. The transparency of the building and the typically Roman plays of light are juxtaposed with the faces and voices of the men and women who worked together on the project for seven years, evoking the atmosphere in which the new home for the ancient altar was born. The photographs document both the progress of construction and external places and events, such as the architect’s New York studio, the meetings of the Superintendency, and the warehouses holding sculptural fragments.
Federico Del Prete (b. Rome, 1965) is a photographer and scholar of photographic history, but also a cameraman and television director. He has curated photography exhibitions in private and institutional venues. He started exhibiting his work as a photographer in Italy and abroad in 1993 and recently completed a doctorate in art history. He lives in Milan.
